My Impressions on the Riders of Icarus Open Beta
So sitting down to my computer at 10:45am EST 6/28/16 and prepared to immerse myself in the world of Riders of Icarus. The first thing that I found was unable to connect for the first 15 mins, which I can understand when you have a lot of people logging into the servers for the first time. The problem with the delay was that I didn’t get the names that I had chosen first so I had to use my back up names. Then came the intro which I could tell was a little bit tweaked compared to CBT3 but in the end still not a story that I can immerse myself in and truly follow. There is still some speech delay in the NPC’s that was very obvious. Then coming to the meat of the game it is still a bit confusing on the layout; where everything is, and how to navigate through the different selections. Once I was able to orient myself I was able to start the game.
My second impressions are slightly the same as the first in which I wish there was another starting zone that with playing other alts I can experience a different setting instead of doing the same thing over. That is just a want but a need is some more life in this world that you have created. There are familiars walking around but what about other creatures; squirrels, small birds, rodents, small rabbits, and all other manner of creatures that fills a forest. In the same since when we enter the city there is no life walking around everyone is stationary and it looks very bland. Just think of the possibilities of adding life to your word, such as taming a heroic mount by killing a few rabbits and placing it in front of his den and then perch on top of his den and wait for him to come out and then pounce. Such creativity brings and okay game to and experience that keeps people coming.
My last constructive thought is the lavalight cave which is the first dungeon that we as the player can experience. I ran the elite section three times and then did the heroic three times and I ran them all on very hard. Which I can say wasn’t that hard but the rewards where bountiful. I’m level 16 sporting all the high end gear for my class. I understand in CBT3 the boss was a bit off the deep end of difficulty but if I have a choice for easy to very hard then I suspect it to be very hard and the rewards to be earned, just didn’t feel like that.
Which leaves my impressions of the game. I personally love the idea of Riders of Icarus and love the direction its heading. I have a collector like personality which desires to catch them all. I have spent some serious time in grinding areas to get the right material to catch the elites. My only problem is now I have a bunch I have no room. Where is the elite scrolls to turn them into pets and bonuses to armor? I’m very happy to have purchased the legendary founders pack in support of this game and I can’t wait to see what amazing things lie in wait for my Wizard.
